Red Dog Rules are completely different to traditional Poker rules so do not be fooled by the name of the game. Apart from the reference to Poker in the name of the game there is not much similarity between them. Red Dog Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards but the hand rankings are totally different. It is also not played against other Players or the Bank.
How to Play Red Dog Poker
Red Dog originated in America and was played in the early 19th century. It was initially called “In Between” as fundamentally the Player wins the bet if the third card drawns’ total is in-between the first two cards drawn. In Between fell off the map for a while and made its reappearance as Red Dog Poker. The game is still not as popular as other casino games and is not available at all online casinos although it does enjoy a following that plays the game for the simplicity that it offers.
Getting Started
Learning How to Play Red Dog is easy. To start off with select the coin size that you would like to bet. This can be done by clicking + (Increase) or – (Decrease). After placing your bet click on “Deal” and the dealer will then deal the player two cards faced up on the table. A marker, “a” (the spread) and “b” (the odds the house offers on an additional bet – the “Raise”) is then placed on the table.

How to Play Red Dog Poker
After the player has wagered on the chosen betting spot the Dealer will deal two cards faced up. If the two cards are consecutive, e.g. six and seven, the hand will be over and the bet will be returned to the player. If the two up cards are a Pair, a third card is dealt. If the hand ends up as a three of a kind all players win 11:1, otherwise the hand is a push.
If the round thus far does not equate to the above, the dealer will announce a Spread. The spread is the total card value between the first two cards that were dealt. E.g. if a 2 and a 7 are dealt the Spread will be 4. This is because there are four cards between these cards; 3, 4, 5 and 6 (not including 2 and 7). Players then have the option to double their initial bet and a third card will be dealt. If the third card is between the other two then the player wins and is paid out according to the size of the spread as follows:
| SPREAD | ODDS |
| 1 card | 5:1 |
| 2 cards | 4:1 |
| 3 cards | 2:1 |
| 4 to 11 cards | Even Money |
| Consecutives | Tie |
| Pairs | Tie |
| Three of a Kind | 11:1 |
