Illinois goes ahead with online gambling legislation

Online gambling, including online poker as in Nevada, is legal in Illinois as of yesterday.

The state of Illinois approved the Online Gambling Expansion Bill on Wednesday by a state senate committee.

The new gambling legislation means Illinois will see more land-based casinos cropping up in capital city Chicago and slot machines in its airports, as well as at the Illinois horse racing tracks.

Online casino games will cost providers, it seems, as the legislation states that “A $250,000 application fee would be required for all companies and individuals wishing to receive an internet gaming license in Illinois. If approved, a company would be required to post a $20 million licensing fee”, explaining that “this fee would be a down payment on future taxes.”
