Bets on new pope continue

Men of the cloth worldwide are to congregate in Vatican City next Monday to elect a new pope, after Pope Benedict XVI shocked the world by retiring last month – the first pope to do so in over half a millennium.

Bets on who and what nationality the successor to Benedict will be have gone viral on the web, and now bets are coming into online casinos globally as to whether or not the new pope will be instated by Good Friday on 29 March – just three weeks away.

As the papal election process is a complicated and democratic exercise and there is no time limit as to how long electing a new pope could take, bets are ranging from by Good Friday to months from now, or even that the new pope will be decided on with the first ballot.
